The iconic Beach2Beach (formerly called Pub2Pub) from Dee Why to Newport Beach is a fun way to raise much needed funds for worthy local charities on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Over the past 27 years the event has raised over $3.5 million dollars for wonderful organisations including Life Education Australia, Surf Life Saving Northern Beaches, Without A Ribbon, Sanfilippo Children's Foundation, One Eighty, Cure. Cancer,Gotcha4Life and Stewart House.
The event has three course options, catering for everyone from serious runners to families – 13km from Dee Why Beach to Newport Beach; 6km from Warriewood to Newport Beach; and 3km from Mona Vale to Newport Beach. (Our club manages the 6km starting point.)
This is undoubtedly Sydney’s most scenic fun run, taking in many of the spectacularly beautiful Northern Beaches. A huge Family Festival is held at the Newport Beach finish line with live music, a licensed bar area, international food options and plenty of fun rides and games for the kids. We will update on 2023 event soon.
Each year we support local students to attend a number of Australian Rotary youth life-skills projects, and we were proud in 2022 to support the following:
If you're a teacher or parent, have a look at our Working with Schools brochure for more information about these programs and how they can bring out the best in your students.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a one-week residential training session that is designed to develop the leadership skills of young adults 18 to 27 years of age.
The next RYLA will be held 15-21 January 2023. Members are welcome to attend the RYLA dinner on 17 January 2023.
We may live in one of the more affluent areas of Australia, but there is no shortage of causes worthy of our support. Here are some of our current and recent local programs:
Through our Life Education Fund, we enable families who have children with Cerebral Palsy to benefit from the learning programs of the ING Centre for Conductive Education at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
We have been selling live Christmas trees in Terrey Hills for over 20 years in partnership with 1st Terrey Hills Scout Group. We have been using the same tree supplier for several years and people often say our trees are the best value trees on the Northern Beaches.
In addition to our one-day in-person sale in Terry Hills, we also offer sales online with delivery to your home. Upper Northern Beaches Rotary and Terry Hills Scout Group wish to thank all those who have purchased our Christmas Trees both on line and in person in the past, as profits raised from your purchase go to worthy charities in the community.
Each year Upper Northern Beaches Rotary manage the Christmas Tree of Joy at Warriewood Square shopping centre. People place Christmas gifts under the tree and we distribute them to local families in need. We wish to thank all those who donated to our Christmas 2021 appeal and the recipients from the local charities were delighted with the donations.
Every January our club helps to organise the Australia Day Breakfast, a popular Pittwater community event held at Newport Beach. We serve hundreds of bacon, egg, sausage sandwiches to the hungry locals who come down to Bert Payne Park to share a bit of Aussie spirit.
